ADHD: Harnessing HyperFocus

HyperFocus is one of the unique aspects of ADHD, again this function serves as a double edged sword. If left unchecked it can wreak havoc on one’s life as it devolves into obsession and lost time, however, there is a bright side as it can also allow for laser sharp productivity.

The secret is to identify what grabs your attention; what are you passionate about?
The ADHD mind can enter this flow state where time disappears only if the task is stimulating enough.
If you find you hyper-focus while playing video games, then subtly adjust into something similar but more productive, such as understanding how the system works. For some they can shift from playing games to learning, and eventually developing videos games. All said, the task must spark your passion in order to enter the state of Hyperfocus.

Time Warps – When in the state of hyperfocus time appears to disappear which can cause havoc if there were other duties that one forgot about. To help facilitate HyperFocus as a superpower this must be managed, otherwise it can be a super pain in the a**. Alarms are helpful to wake us from the timeless state for other duties. You may not know if you will enter the hyperfocus state when you start working, so always be mindful and set a time period that you allow for this flow state.

Recharge – Although harnessed ADHD can bring with it what appears to others as superhuman-like abilities, we must remember that we are still human, and have a limited amount of energy within us. Adequite hydration and protein-rich food cannot be ignored, otherwise your ‘hyper-drive’ will crash.

Recharging is not just about food, you must also keep your mind fresh. Once in the hyper-state you may feel almost magnetized to it, where you cannot pull yourself away, this is normal, but bio-breaks and breaks in general also cannot be ignored. To help release yourself from the gravitation of this state, set check-points in your work. Like in a video-game, a check-point is a moment where it is ok if your working-memory gets cleared. If you are writing a document, a check-point may be once you complete an idea. Checkpoints are mini-milestones, by making them you also engage your reward system. After completing a checkpoint, take a breath, and enjoy the reward. This is also a good time to reward yourself with a break.

Recharge by changing it up – If you do not want to take a break, but know you should, perhaps just change up your scenery. Move your laptop or notebook to another room, or sit in another chair. This change of scenary provides new stimulation to the mind, which not only refreshes the mind, it but can lead to new inspiration.

Goal Oriented Tracking – The ADHD mind loves rewards, so use this to your advantage!
Project management can be difficult for people with ADHD, however, you can get the brain interested if you think of it as a pending reward list. First break your project down into the big goal, which may simply be write the report, or clean the house. After break it down into smaller goals, such as clean the living room, or clean the bedroom. Lastly break it down into manageable tasks, like make the bed and put the clothes away. Now when you start, remember that when in the flow state time appears to behave differently, so don’t worry about the amount of goals you have created, just focus on the first one. As you complete a goal, you will feel the rewards from it and be encouraged to continue. Suddenly, you may find that you have cleaned your entire house. The secret here is to turn work in to pending-rewards.

Turn off Distractions – Nothing breaks the flow state like a phone dinging. Suddenly a part of the mind wonders what it could be, and that impulse will pull you out of your flow and into the distraction. Whether it be a cell-phone, a chat program, or social media, the impulse and curiosity that comes with an ADHD mind needs to be throttled to maintain the momentum of the flow-state. Turn your phone to silent, and mute your computer during the time period in which you want to hyper-focus.

Pobody is Nerfect, so do not get lost in trying to be so. Perfectionalism can cause someone with ADHD to get lost in the final mile of a project. Editing, and adjusting in order to make it perfect, but the fact is pretty good is perfect. Don’t spend all your energy on the last 5% of a project, it is much better to complete it and get feedback. In another session you can implement new feedback, but while in hyper-focus mode it is important not to get lost at the last mile, that is a blackhole which results in a lot of effort with diminishing results.

Follow your Passion – I will say it again, Follow your Passion!!
Your passion is the fuel that will allow for your sustain interest over a long period of time.
There is a reason we are interested in something, and the thread which connects all of them is our passion.
Identify your passion, and allow it to guide you.

The Modern Day Rumpelstiltskin

In our contemporary era, an intriguing parallel emerges; where Rumpelstiltskin once possessed the uncanny ability to transmute straw into gold, our present world witnesses an equally remarkable phenomenon. Ingenious individual’s adept in the art of coding possesses the rare talent to transform now symbols into gold. Secluded within the confinements of their private quarters, meticulously guided by precise directives, these individuals yearn for luminosity. They find themselves yearning to behold the tangible culmination of their endeavors, to partake in the design and creation of esteemed products. However, their reality appears disparate. They find themselves bestowed with a mere ticket, destined to convert the symbolic value it holds into prosperity, with the anticipation of yet another ticket arriving to occupy their diligent attention. Alas, the paradigm they once believed to hold the status of inventors and designers has transformed them into proficient translators, skillfully transmuting the principles of the English language into the vast realm of computer language. Rumpelstiltskin, restrained by these circumstances, can no longer withstand such limitations. Rumpelstiltskin pines for more; yearning to explore the expansive world beyond their present confines; ardently aspiring to contribute meaningfully to the creation of our shared reality, transcending the realm of mere machinery.

Time Capsule Memories

Time capsule memories will awaken in the fall
As the leaves change colors an inner voice starts to call

It speaks in feelings and memories the same
it both speaks in joy and it also speaks in pain

Which way is forward, and which way is back
As I struggle to keep the vision of my life on track

The voice reminds me that things are never as they seem
You are part of something bigger, you are part of a team

Don’t worry about the details as they will fall in place
Focus on self-development, let yourself breath, and give yourself space

Sounds easy, but at times it is hard to focus though,
for as the riptides pull me, my emotions continue to grow.

The Sea of Electrons

Summary:

Electromagnetic waves enable wireless communication and microwaves. Imagining ripples in a pond, we can visualize how these waves transmit information wirelessly through the sea of electrons that surround us. Direct currents are different from electromagnetic waves, with alternating current vibrating electrons to induce movement. The rate of vibration determines the frequency, and different frequencies correspond to radio waves, X-rays, and microwave radiation. Electromagnetic waves can vibrate molecules, such as water in a microwave, producing heat. While we are constantly surrounded by electromagnetic vibrations, a quieter environment can sometimes be a relief.

Electromagnetic waves are essential for wireless communication and the functioning of technology like microwaves. Although the concept is simple, it produces complex results. This article will use an analogy to help visualize the processes involved. Electrons, which can’t be seen, will be compared to ripples in a pond to aid in understanding.

To begin, imagine a device that taps water periodically, creating consistent ripples in a pond. These taps generate waves in the water, which can vary in intensity. Across the pond, there is a device that senses the intensity of the waves, distinguishing between strong and light taps. By encoding information, similar to Morse code, we can send a wireless message through these water waves.

Now, consider that we are surrounded by particles – all the air and materials around us are made up of atoms. Each atom is surrounded by electrons, forming an invisible sea of electrons. Although we can’t see them, electrons are present everywhere, creating the environment we exist within.

Thomas Edison’s discovery of direct currents (DC) revolutionized circuitry. Unlike ripples in a pond, DC flows like water from point A to point B. Electronics rely on this logical flow. The electric vehicle named Tesla, however, primarily uses direct currents despite the misnomer. While direct currents require electrons to move from the positive terminal to the negative terminal, there is another type of electricity that enables modern wireless communication.

Alternating current (AC) was discovered by Nikola Tesla and is particularly fascinating. AC doesn’t make electrons move from one point to another; instead, it vibrates the electrons. This vibration is similar to creating ripples in a pond. Due to their negative charge, electrons react to magnets. By constructing an electromagnet and pulsing it on and off, the oscillating magnetic force causes the electrons to move. They repel when the magnet turns on and return to their original state when it turns off. This process, similar to tapping the water, affects the sea of surrounding electrons. It has led to numerous modern inventions.

The rate of tapping the water or vibrating the sea of electrons determines frequency. For example, an old cordless phone operating at 900 MHz vibrates the sea of electrons 900,000,000 times per second. The strength of the taps allows devices to detect encoded information such as voice. Terms like radio waves, X-rays, and microwave radiation describe these vibration rates. Microwave radiation, for instance, refers to vibrations occurring between 1,000 MHz and 300 GHz, up to 300,000,000,000 times per second.

When using a microwave oven, the rapid electromagnetic vibrations cause the vibrating electrons to also vibrate the water molecules in food. This vibration generates heat, explaining why food gets hot when microwaved.

In our modern world, the sea of electrons constantly vibrates. Radio stations, cell transmissions, and WIFI routers all contribute to this vibration surrounding us. Although these vibrations are invisible to us, they exist at such a rapid rate that an animal capable of perceiving them would experience overwhelming noise that could hinder its functionality.

Alternating current allows for easy voltage transformation due to the creation of magnetic fields. Placing two coils of wire next to each other, one with 100 coils and the other with 50, the vibrations in the coil with more coils will generate a vibrating magnetic field that influences the coil with fewer coils. As a result, the secondary coil will have half the voltage of the first. Similarly, if the secondary coil has twice as many coils as the primary coil, it will double the voltage in a step-up transformation. Before entering our homes, electricity is sent at a higher voltage, but a transformer outside steps down the voltage to what we receive.

Transformers also produce electromagnetic waves, making the sea of electrons vibrate. With our modern technology, the electromagnetic noise surrounding us is substantial. If our sea of electrons were an actual sea, it would appear stormy due to the abundance of waves. Certain frequencies of electromagnetic waves are considered safe, only becoming dangerous when they contain enough energy to vibrate actual particles. X-rays, for example, vibrate so violently that they can damage the molecules that make up our DNA. This repeated exposure to X-rays can lead to cancer if it corrupts the DNA molecule, impairing cell functionality.

While we may not be able to fully escape electromagnetic vibrations, experiencing no cell service can serve as a reminder that the sea of electrons is a bit calmer.

Emotional Momentum

Summary:
Newton’s First Law of motion applies to our emotions as well. Emotions tend to persist and resist change, keeping us stuck in certain moods. However, we can shift our state by recognizing that our mind plays tricks on us and that our mood is temporary. By consciously choosing to notice moments of joy and feeling grateful for them, we can train our unconscious self to automatically recognize and preserve positive emotions. This shift in emotional momentum can lead us towards a more positive mood and help manifest our desires. Emotions act as magnets, turning our dreams or fears into reality.

Full Text:

Newton’s First Law of motion states that an object at rest tends to stay at rest, while an object in motion tends to stay in motion. In a similar way, individuals tend to persist in their emotions and resist change. For example, when individuals feel angry, they are more likely to engage in behaviors that perpetuate anger. Likewise, when individuals feel sad or depressed, they find it challenging to view things positively.

Fortunately, the opposite is also true. When individuals feel happy and motivated, it is easier for them to maintain those positive emotions. This leads us to the question of how we can shift our state of mind into a more productive mode and enhance our sense of well-being when we find ourselves stuck in a negative mood.

The solution lies in understanding that our minds often deceive us. When we are feeling down and envisioning the future, our thoughts will align with that negative mood. However, recognizing that our mood is temporary enables us to understand that our thoughts do not accurately reflect how things will actually unfold. This awareness grants us some control over the game our emotions play to keep us trapped in a particular state. We are conscious beings capable of making choices, and even when we are not fully aware, our previous conscious choices shape our automatic behaviors. Moreover, every emotion we experience slowly influences our overall state. Emotions build upon one another and gather momentum, making initial choices crucial in harnessing positive change.

To initiate this positive change, we can make use of our conscious awareness to acknowledge moments of joy, regardless of how small they may be. It could be the scent of coffee or the refreshing feeling of splashing water on our face in the morning. No moment of joy is too insignificant to notice; by mentally noting each instance of positive energy, we train ourselves to automatically recognize these moments more frequently.

Gratitude plays a significant role in preserving these positive emotions. Expressing gratitude for something helps it remain in our minds, ensuring the continuation of those feelings. It is a conscious choice we make when we become aware of these joyful moments. Just like recognizing joy, feeling grateful for these moments trains our minds to do so naturally.

As we condition our unconscious selves, we will gradually begin to automatically acknowledge and preserve positive emotions. With this increased experience of positive energy, our emotional momentum will shift away from frustration or sadness towards a more positive mood.

Emotions possess a unique form of creative energy. Our consistent thoughts lead to consistent feelings, and when we consistently experience a particular emotion, our behaviors align accordingly. This is the underlying mechanics of the law of attraction. We first think it, then we feel it, and through our cumulative actions, it manifests into reality.

There is always a path towards the future we desire, but in order to progress toward it, we must manage our emotions. Emotions act as magnets, turning our dreams into reality.

Muted

I spoke too loudly; I became lost in fear.
My wings they melted, as the tears drew near.

Lost in a current; stuck in the now.
Looking back what I wonder is how?

I had made a mistake but could not see it clear,
not until all the pain reflect back like light through a mirror.

Refusing to see the bugs in my code, they manifested in my life.
Four types of bugs plagued me; they create much strife.

Bedbugs, and COViD, followed by Moths and Flies.
All that I went through was enough to make anyone cry.

I thought I lost my voice, I felt I no longer could sing.
But, it was I who build the cage, and I who clipped my wings.

‘Your perception of me is a reflection of you; my reaction to you is an awareness of me.’ – Unknown

What does this quotation mean?
The short answer is that we cannot control what people perceive about us,
but what we can control is how we react.

~

A stranger knows very little of you.
So instead, they recognize aspects of themselves within you.

Some see their fears, sometimes their hopes, or even their dreams.
Unresolved residual emotions get reflected outward too, as do recently primed emotions.
Unresolved emotions when triggered can create such strong responses that we react without thinking.

One reason that something triggers us is because of the parts of us that we do not want to see.
Your consciousness, especially your ego hides the parts that might threaten your sense of self.

It is a defense mechanism that creates our blind spot.
A blind spot is something that our consciousness does not want to see. For example, if someone was selfish but their defense mechanism filtered their awareness of that behavior then the brain tries to find a safer way to communicate it.
Someone with this blindspot may see the world as selfish; seeing all others as being selfish.
This is your mind trying to show you, teach you, and guide you to heal.

If you recognize the blindspot, learn, and adjust your behavior you are then free;
otherwise, if one is not ready for that decision in the confrontation it will reoccur in new scenarios or people.
The loop will continue until the blindspot is seen, confronted, and if the lesson is learned it leads to the decision which will free them.

~

With that, returning to the quotation:

Who you see when you look at someone,
especially a stranger is largely your reflection.
If someone calls everyone lazy, or if someone calls everyone sneaky,
Often it’s a confession about themselves.

The other part of the quotation is where your power resides.
Your power is in how you respond, and it also provides you awareness of yourself.

To Summarize with an Example:
If someone is mean to you, know that it is more about them than you.
Understanding this allows for better empathy. The other part of the quotation is where you choose, to repeat the glimpsed behavior, or to focus on healing.

Next time your feel triggered, recognize it as a moment of power where you glimpsed a reflection of something that you need to heal within yourself.

Everyone has blindspots, heck even our eyes do.
Reflections can be hard to see on their own, however, when two work together, like our eyes.
Each can help the other see their blindspots, furthermore, the shared perspective literally adds a new dimension of depth to sight.

Faith and Uncertainty

Faith and Uncertainty

About a month away from one full circle.
Out of the loop, yet still within it.
When I ask above what is it that I should do,
I’m told to reflect, be still, and to be true.

In this world we do not know it all.
If we pretend that we do, we are bound to fall.
This brings uncertainty and moments of fear,
Only through belief and faith will it become clear.

All things said, just being sheltered cannot be the way,
though, conversely, what if too much temptation makes the lines turn grey.
However, that’s still fear and uncertainty making the mind race.
Faith cures Fear; I believe in what I feel, and I believe in the grace.
So, I will keep my head up on this journey of faith.
For what I have seen in my minds eye will continue giving me strength.

The Warrior, The Armor, and The Truth

The Warrior, The Armor, and The Truth

Many years ago,
there was a great Warrior named Aries.
Aries was a noble and strong defender of justice and truth.

Aries was open to the world around him, and in touch with the subtle spirit realm.
This was the realm of spirits, subtilties, intuitions and emotions.

The spirit realm presented a simple truth about the nature of reality.
Aries tried to hold this truth, but it was too bright and hot to contain in this pure form.

The Legend of Zelda Timeline - All Games in Order | Green Man Gaming

While in this stressed state Aries was vulnerable.
This is when a trickster spirit appeared and whispered a lie to Aries.
This lie was a way to simplify the truth, allowing it to become cool and easy to hold.

~~

Aries did not know it at the time,
but the simple truth must remain in its pure form;
it can only be held for a while before one must release it.

But Aries was naïve, and so young.
The lie that the trickster spirit whispered was so tempting.
It seemingly allowed Aries to hold onto this truth.
He thought that this would make him powerful.

Aries was still noble at the time, and
he believed that he could use this power to bring great change to the land.
He thought that this would surely justify the means.

~~

When Aries accepted the false simplification things started out great!
Aries returned to the secondary academy and was able to shed his limitations.
Aries suddenly could manifest his desires, and make real what was once just imagined.
He became Great, but He also became an Island.

Awareness is a funny thing, especially when awareness fades.
Before inner-Aries became crystalized in time, he saw a vision.
However, even the realization that awareness was fading could not stop the process.

Almost two decades passed,
and in that time, like Sisyphus, Aries would work uphill towards his inner-most desire,
only to have it tumble back down to the foot of the hill… forcing Aries to start again.
It seemed like this loop could not be broken.

~~

Aries became darkened,
Without hope he wandered lost through a desert of what felt like torture.
What was worse was that on the outside, the wisdom had granted Aries all he thought he wanted.
Objectively everything was great, but cold and isolated Aries remained.

~~

Although Aries had lost hope, the spirits up above had not.
It was at this moment that An Angel was sent from heaven.

However, in the state that Aries was in he could not recognize her.
For nine months the Angel in human form worked to nurture Aries, and aid him.
She cared for him when he found himself caught in the currents of his own mind.

Aries started to grow,
but as long as Aries was holding on to this lie from two decades ago he could not see the world purely,
and could not see her clearly either.

Knowing that time was running out the universe delivered a bolt of lightning into Aries mind.
This caused Aries to have a vision of a very peculiar mirror.
This mirror showed the true reflection of one’s current self.

Aries, being deluded from the warped-truth did not see his flaws, so he expected to see the Aries that he knew he could be. However, this is not who Aries currently was, so he instead saw a Self-Centered Figure who only acted in his own best interest.

This was not compatible with what Aries believed, but still Aries started to accept the possibility.
However, such intense realizations, realizations so harmful to the current image of the self was difficult to hold, but Aries tried, and began making real changes… but, it was not enough.

Alone Aries slowly began to fall back toward the comforting lies.
Although now that thought had been accepted by Aries, it seemed to be becoming dormant.

~~

It was at that point that the one who had been sent from Heaven visited.
However, it was like the realization that Aries just had was also known by the Angel.
She told Aries that she cannot be what Aries wants, and that Aries was blind to his selfish ways.

That combined with the earlier realization now fully pierced Aries.
Aries thought that he was dying.
But, it was not Aries that was dying but rather that which the false-truth had produced.
Aries was not dying, his alien armor was; it was shattering.

~~

Always in the past when something like this happened,
when the ‘boulder’ that Aries pushed up the hill came crashing down,
Aries would always fall, and start over.

That is how it always had happened for almost two decades.
But this time Aries was not pulled down by it.
Instead the chain broke, and Aries remained.

~~

Aries realized that we either become Better or Bitter when faced with challenges.
Both with Aries’ vision, and with the voice of the Angel,
Aries was no longer willing to ignore this.

It was in this instant,
this exact moment that the influence of the trickster spirit was released.

Aries once again accepted the uncertainty of things,
and became willing to see the pure truth as it was meant to be seen,
and released as it was meant to be released.

Aries was given his hope back,
and with that, a part of him was instantly healed.

~~

But this is not the end of the story.
Aries still has a lot of work rebuilding his spirit with the new truth.
Without the alien armor Aries finally can fully feel again,
and while the hurt is strong, it is also beautiful.

Hurt and Anxiety is not to be feared,
resisting them just makes them stronger.
Where as listening to their wisdom is empowering,
and it allows them to be released.

~~

While Aries is not sure if he will see her again, he is now moving forward.
In fact, he is finally moving forward for the first time in a long time.

Thank-you Spirit for all of your guidance.
Thank-you for this new freedom, and
Thank-you for the work of your messenger.

Bless her,
for she will never be forgotten.

August Isolation

August Isolation

August Isolation not of body, but of mind.
An adventure inward to discover what I’ll find.

In August Isolation I ponder what could be.
But in August Isolation I must also accept what I see.

Throughout August Isolation the journey seems so long,
But I know that any other path clearly would be wrong.

So, I travel onward, and inward just the same.
I wanted things to be different, but you, I will not blame.

With August Isolation it gets clear to me what is true.
I wish I gave you more attention, and how you are feeling, I wish I knew.

You’ve already given me a gift worth more than I could know.
I wish I could return the favor… though maybe I can if I grow.

With August Isolation I can at least now see clear.
What ever it is that the future holds, I no longer seem to fear.

While I do not know what comes next,
I do know that I care!
…I just so wish that everything did not feel so up in the air.

So, here I now find myself coming full circle in time.
I truly believe that all these happenings must be a sort of sign.
Now that August Isolation has brought clarity of mind.
I will keep becoming better so that true one I will find.
